Fujairah has built an impressive reputation as a centre for business
and trade.
The government of Fujairah, in its constant development
of infrastructure, has reduced the red tape that hinders economic
growth, be it in relation to the international airport, the Port
of Fujairah or the Fujairah Free Zone.
All of these projects come
under the aegis of the Department of Industry and Economy. Each project
department is run by a professional management team.
The Fujairah
Free Zone has experienced tremendous growth with more than 250 companies
contributing to the economy of the emirate. The main sectors of business
are textiles, gold, castings, IT, heating and cooling units, recycling,
plastics and perfumes, as well as the trading and service sectors.
Free Zone Authority
Since its establishment, Fujairah Free Zone Authority has made a
remarkable contribution in setting up the commercial activity along
the east coast of the United Arab Emirates .
Lush greenery and mountains
typify the emirate as a leisure destination, but today Fujairah is
much more than that. In fact, sound business sense, thorough planning
and a commitment to efficiency have been instrumental in changing the
face of this growing emirate.
Established over 10 years ago, Fujairah
Free Zone has over 250 successful companies to its credit, involving
the investment of over $350m and employing over 3,675 people in various
industry sectors, including assembly, communications and networking,
consulting, contracting, distribution, engineering, investment, manufacturing
and trading.
The growing emirate
Fujairah the emirate on the east coast of United
Arab Emirates benefits from several advantages. Thanks to its strategic
location outside the Straits of Hormuz and into the open seas of
the Indian Ocean, Fujairah has gained international importance as
a trade link between the Indian subcontinent, the Far East, the Middle
East and Europe .
Under the leadership and direction of His Highness
Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of Supreme Council and
Ruler of Fujairah, Fujairah is gaining international prestige.
Economic
projects: The Fujairah Department of Industry and Economy is the
body that supervises and supports all the economic projects in the
emirate and plays a crucial role in attracting investors to the region.
Under the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Saleh Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, chairman
of the Department of Industry and Economy, substantial investments
were made in the development of economic, industrial, agricultural
and tourism projects which have resulted in the phenomenal growth
of the emirate.
With the new desalination plant, which produces more
than 180 million gallons of water per day, and electricity generation
station, generating 620 megawatts of electricity, Fujairah Free Zone
has an infrastructure ready to accommodate any type of business.
Boasting an open skies policy, highly competitive handling rates,
low fuel prices, efficient customs and immigration procedures and
customised services, Fujairah International Airport has added an
extra dimension to the already impressive aviation portfolio of the
UAE.
The multi-purpose Port of Fujairah , another vital government
undertaking, works alongside the airport and free zone and is capable
of handling a variety of cargo and meeting the needs of different
operations. The Port of Fujairah is keen to promote itself as a prospective
transshipment hub capitalising on it's location, with potential overland
and sea and air links to neighbouring countries.
Today, Fujairah
boasts the largest storage tank terminal in the Middle East with
a storage capacity of 1 million tons. With its strategic location
and the availability of a modern port supported with free zone facilities,
Fujairah has always been one of the top three locations in the bunkering
business.
